Situated in Norfolk, Virginia, Old Dominion University is a doctoral research university. Founded in 1930 by the College of William and Mary, it is the second oldest educational institution of the United States. In 1962, this university was named Old Dominion College. It started providing master's degree programs from 1964 onwards and Ph.D. programs since 1971. It has been recognized as a research university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
This university has one graduate school, which offers doctoral degrees, education specialist degrees, master's degrees, and graduate certificates. It also has eight colleges which are Perry Honors College, College of Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Batten College of Engineering and Technology, Darden College of Education and Professional Studies, Strome College of Business and College of Arts and Letters.
