Pepperdine University is a well-known educational institution whose construction began in February 1937. The George Pepperdine College opened on November 21 of the same year. It began with 167 students from 22 US states and two foreign countries, 22 faculty members, and 3 doctorates. Within seven months of the institution's opening, The Northwest Association granted it accreditation. On January 1, 1971, the institution was designated as Pepperdine University. Currently, the academic structure of the university consists of five schools devoted to diverse academic disciplines. There are six Pepperdine University campuses in the United States. The university's primary campus is situated in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu. The West Los Angeles Graduate Campus is located near Interstate 405 and is home to the Graziadio Business School and Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology. The Calabasas Campus is situated between Lost Hills Road and Las Virgenes Road, close to the 101 Freeway. The campus features a two-story structure with a vast parking lot. The Encino Graduate Campus is located on the second floor of the First Financial Plaza Building, two miles from the San Diego Freeway, and features modern classrooms, study rooms, faculty offices, reference facilities, and computer labs. The Irvine Graduate Campus is located near the John Wayne Orange County Airport in Irvine. The Silicon Valley Campus serves the San Francisco Bay Area's communities. The university has international campuses in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Heidelberg, Germany; Florence, Italy; Lausanne, Switzerland; Shanghai, China; London, United Kingdom; and Washington, District of Columbia, United States.
