The Brevard Engineering College was founded in 1958, but it was not until 1966 that the institute received its current name. The Florida Institute of Technology, usually known as FIT or Florida Tech, is a Melbourne-based, privately-owned, non-profit research and doctoral university. In the year 1958, the university was founded as Brevard Engineering College to provide further support to NASA's organisation. Dr. Jerome P. Keuper, who eventually became the university's first president, founded it.
Nathan Bisk College of Business, College of Psychology & College of Liberal Arts, College of Engineering and Science, College of Aeronautics, and Honors College are the university's five educational colleges. The College of Engineering is home to half of the university's student body.
The main residential campus of the university is 130 acres in size and is located near the Florida Tech Research Park and the Orlando Melbourne International Airport. Numerous student services are available at the university, including training, health insurance, health facilities, and campus security. For on-campus living, there are six resident halls and two apartment-style residences.
Nearly 35% of students are from Florida, 74 percent of all students are from the United States, and 25% of all students are from other countries. There are about 120 student groups at Florida Institute of Technology. The primary financial support for the university is provided by university student organisations. The Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association, Homecoming Committee, and FITV are just a few of the organisations (CCTV Channel 99).
Crimson, a student-run newspaper, is also published at the university. Not only that, but FIT is also home to a National Public Radio affiliate studio and station, two art museums, and a performing arts centre.
With a strong focus on engineering, Florida Tech has academic offerings scattered throughout four colleges.
