The University of Middlesex is a public research university in Hendon, northwest London, England. The university name is taken from its position within the historic Middlesex county boundaries.
Middlesex University was established in Tottenham, north-east London in 1878, when St. Katherine's College was founded. In 1973, Middlesex Polytechnic was established following the incorporation of seven other colleges before gaining university status in 1992.
Over 25,000 students from around 140 countries are staffed by the university.
Significant developments in Middlesex include the invention of a thermionic valve used to build the first computer in the world (1904) and the invention of a new type of metal called argentium silver, (1990).
In 2017, the university opened the UK's first ever cyber factory, where students gain experience in getting them ready for future workplace jobs and business opportunities.
Middlesex University is a single site campus located in Hendon, north London. It's a green and peaceful part of town well connected to the rest of London, the UK and beyond. It has invested over £ 200 m to transform the Hendon site at the University into one of London's largest campuses.
Campus is located in North West London, near the Underground Station at Hendon Central. Besides London, the university has also been operating an overseas campus in Dubai Since 2004 and opened another one in Mauritius in October 2009. In September 2013, Middlesex opened its third international campus in Malta
The Teaching Excellence Framework was honored by Silver in 2017. The university has been awarded three times with the Queen's Anniversary Prize and twice for its international work, the Queen's Award for Enterprise.

The Social Science Research Network (SSRN) ranks the university business school as the world's 209th-largest international business school.
