Agricultural Economics ‣ Masters in Purdue University
The Department of Agricultural Economics is a very diverse department with faculty and graduate students working on topics ranging from cropping and livestock production systems to agribusiness supply chain issues, as well as environmental, health, various aspects of international development, trade, and various other areas of applied economics. The agricultural economics curriculum is in the tradition of the Land Grant College philosophy: knowledge for the improvement of the human condition. Sound judgment, rigorous analysis and ability to define and solve problems are the goals of the professional agricultural economist.
Our Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science programs provide excellent preparation for positions in higher education, public service and private industry. The PhD track focuses on theory application and analytical methods to solve problems in a chosen area of specialization - Agribusiness Management and Marketing; International Trade and International Development; Applied Economics Quantitative Methods; and Resources, Environment and Sustainable Production. We offer two primary tracks for an MS in Agricultural Economics: the traditional track which is research-oriented, leading to the completion of a thesis and the professional MS in international business, a non-thesis degree. In partnership with the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, the department also offers the dual-degree MS-MBA in Food and Agribusiness Management.
