usic Theatre & Performance creatively explores ways of integrating music and theatre performance for a contemporary audience. You will have opportunities to enhance your musicianship, improve performance and acting skills and develop abilities and approaches to creating new work.
You will explore the explosion of new theatre forms that combine music and theatre such as gig theatre, new cabaret, and fusions between classical and popular music (e.g. dubstep opera) as well as Musical Theatre.
The focus is on supporting your development as a creative practitioner, and preparing you for a professional career as a practitioner, workshop leader or tutor. The understanding and networks you will develop through the course could also lead towards a variety of careers within the theatre industries, and the collaborative nature of the course can facilitate forming your own company, through collaboration with dancers, playwrights and actors in the creation of your work. You will be taught by professional musicians from Severn Arts (music development organisation) and theatre-makers throughout the course, and will have a number of opportunities to perform publicly.
