year 1

This module will consider the ways in which systems of the body interact in order to maintain homeostasis. You will be introduced to the anatomy and physiology of the human body and the organisation of body structures and systems. The module will also consider communication systems within the body and the protective and survival mechanisms that work together to maintain a 'healthy' state. Aim: To introduce you to the anatomy and physiology of the human body, its body structures and systems.

year 2

The module is intended to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to support you within your first care setting. During the module you will consider the legal, ethical and professional aspects of care interventions across a range of sectors including the public, private and charitable sectors. You will explore a range of nursing interventions utilised when caring for people with learning disabilities who have commonly encountered health conditions and examine how effective communication strategies can assist the process of working in partnership with people with learning disabilities, their families or carers.

year 3

The module is intended to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to support you within your first care setting. year 4

This module enables you to advance your skills of mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural health needs assessment and interventions through the exploration of models and approaches to assessing and planning care. The module enables you to focus on specific conditions and safe evidence based responses when caring for the patient with learning disabilities. You will synthesise pharmacology and pharmacodynamics into your ongoing knowledge and skills in relation to safe medication administration. Methods of evaluating the impact of care will be explored .
