OVERVIEW
The University of the West of Scotland was the first Scottish institution to offer a Human Resource Management (HRM) Undergraduate programme with professional accreditation by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). The programme’s education continues to meet the highest professional standards within HRM.
With successful completion of the Honours Degree, students will obtain the Level 5 (Intermediate) CIPD qualification, and gain the eligibility to be a CIPD Associate Member.1

JOIN AN EXCITING PROGRAMME
The BA(Hons) Business & HRM programme aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop requisite knowledge, critical thinking and professional skills. Underpinned by academic theory, the programme will prepare graduates for the workplace, ready to start their careers as HRM professionals or enter postgraduate studies.
The curriculum covers key HRM areas, including; Talent Management, Critical Employment Relations, Managing Performance and Reward, Human Resource Strategy, HRM Research Design, Equality and Diversity and International HRM – and much more.
PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Work experience opportunities help our students gain important skills which are transferable to future careers. UWS pro-actively helps students obtain internships, placements, work experience or part-time work through strong industry and alumni connections.
The dedicated HRM Alumni Network continues to work with UWS to help create opportunities for students, including work-placements, guest lecturers and networking events.
As part of the programme, students have the opportunity to be awarded with 20 credits for HRM-related work experience (with successful completion of the Professional Development Experience module), undertaken during 2nd and/or 3rd year.

With the BA Business & Human Resource Management, you will gain a mix of specialist and transferable skills essential for a career in business and HRM. A variety of teaching and learning approaches are used, including lectures, tutorials and workshops, all of which are focused on the practical aspects of business and human resources.
High quality and experienced teaching staff, supported by industry guest speakers, will deepen your understanding of business and HRM. Tutors will help you to navigate the range of career options and professional accreditations that will be available to you upon completion of the programme.

Employment
Upon completion of the programme, our graduates are equipped with the professional knowledge, skills and understanding to pursue careers within human resources. The business modules arm our graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to explore careers in general organisation management.
Recent Business & Human resource management graduates are employed across the public, private and third sector in industries such as recruitment, NHS, BP, IKEA and local authority.
Further Study
UWS offers various postgraduate qualifications which can help graduates further develop their knowledge and understanding of business and HRM. MSc HRM & Pathways, MSc International Management, and Master of Business Administration (MBA) are only a few of the options available to graduates of the BA(Hons) Business & HRM programme.
Graduates looking to pursue research or education may wish to consider an academic career and apply for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree.
