About Social Work BA (hons) in University of Sussex
How do you tell a child the reason they’ve been removed from their family without causing more trauma? How do you support a couple living with HIV to adopt or foster? Would you like to develop the skills to support older people who face barriers accessing services?
Social Work at Sussex combines theory with practical experience. This enables you to improve the quality of people’s lives and make a difference to families, individuals and communities. Our teaching methods draw on our research expertise and cutting-edge knowledge. You’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the realities and complexity of practice in a supportive and caring environment.
As a core part of your qualification, you’ll undertake practice learning placements. You’ll benefit from the partnerships we’ve developed over years of collaboration with local organisations. You’ll be trained to uphold high-quality professional standards and develop emerging professional leadership skills.

Academic qualification equivalents
- 80% from ISC Indian School certificate of Education (CISCE) or 80% from SSC All India Senior School Certificate Examination (CBSE)
English language requirements (one of the below):
- IELTS : 6.5 overall, including at least 6.0 in each component
- TOEFL : 88 overall, including at least 20 in Listening, 19 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.
- PTE : 62 overall, including at least 56 in all four skills.
