About Human Rights MA in University of Sussex
Explore human rights in relation to women, children, migrants, minorities, fair trade, the environment and international crimes.
Taught by experts in the fields of anthropology, international relations, law and geography. You’ll strengthen your analytical, research and presentation abilities, and gain specialist knowledge.
If you have experience in human rights, this course allows you to reflect on that experience and develop new research skills. If you’re new to the field, the dissertation with placement is an invaluable opportunity to prepare for a career in this area.

Recent Human Rights MA students have gone on to roles including:
- adviser, LGBT Rapid Response Fund at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance
- change executive, Digital Transformation Programme at Save the Children UK
- assistant programme director at Wilton Park (an executive agency, sponsored by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office).
Academic qualification equivalents
- Bachelors degree with an overall mark of at least 54-69% depending on your university.
English language requirements (one of the below):
- IELTS : 6.5 overall, including at least 6.0 in each component
- TOEFL : 88 overall, including at least 20 in Listening, 19 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.
- PTE : 62 overall, including at least 56 in all four skills.
