About Automotive Engineering (with An Industrial Placement Year) Beng (hons) in University of Sussex
Automotive Engineering at Sussex covers all aspects of modern automotive development, including engine, transmission and chassis design. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to meet the challenges and changes in the automotive industry.
Our research feeds directly into our teaching, so you'll benefit from our work in dynamics, control and vehicle research. Research projects include automotive control system, automotive on-board diagnostics system, electric motor-driven camless valve train for IC engines, and autonomous vehicles.
You’ll study in our Future Technologies Labs that incorporate computer suites and new automation/robotics facilities. There is also a dedicated manufacturing lab with facilities such as CNC machines and 3-D printers.
In our Formula Student projects, you’ll get the chance to work on one of our electrical or internal combustion engine single-seat racing cars. In addition, you’ll benefit from our links to world-leading automotive companies when preparing to become a professional engineer. We have dedicated academic advisers to support you during you time at Sussex, as well as a team of student mentors. You’ll also be welcomed into our active, student-run engineering societies, and benefit from our partnerships with:

Throughout your studies, you'll develop skills and knowledge in modern automotive development. You can use these skills for careers in sectors including:

- construction and manufacturing

Academic qualification equivalents
- 80% from ISC Indian School certificate of Education (CISCE) or 80% from SSC All India Senior School Certificate Examination (CBSE)
English language requirements (one of the below):
- IELTS : 6.5 overall, including at least 6.0 in each component
- TOEFL : 88 overall, including at least 20 in Listening, 19 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.
- PTE : 62 overall, including at least 56 in all four skills.
