Course Details
During this course, you will investigate the impact of web applications and the importance of secure online systems.You will study cyber security, cryptography, modern networks, the development of applications, design and implementation of robust databases, mobile computing and artificial intelligence techniques. You will be able to put this knowledge into good use through practical work in our computer facilities that will equip you for the industry.
Our course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to manage the challenges faced in web application development and security. You will be given real life industry examples to reinforce your theoretical knowledge using our computer facilities.
Methods of Learning
You will be taught through a variety of activities and problem solving challenges, so that you can apply your theoretical knowledge. Being able to analyse problems, implement statistical methods, research solutions and apply them in new ways are all skills that are highly valued in the computing industry, and you will be able to use them throughout your career to drive the industry forward.
Assessments
A wide range of assessment tools are used including essays, reports and end of year examinations.
Your first year focuses on the fundamental principles such as computer systems, communications, problem solving, programming and internet technology. These modules will be shared with all Computing students to give you the flexibility to specialise in your second and third year.
As you specialise in your second and third years, you will practice programming specific to web applications and you will develop your expertise in design and programming, as well as optimising graphics for 2D and 3D platforms. During year two, you will work on a group project and in your final year, you will complete an individual dissertation.
