MA Interior Design in University of East London (UEL)

The aim of this 12-month Master's programme is to engage you in creative and experimental processes and to enhance your ability to grasp complex design ideas. The program has a clear hands-on approach which aligns with the ‘making’ ethos of the School. Live projects, competitions and field trips make this program a unique life-changing experience.
Design of any scale responds to – and in parallel leads – cultural and social change. Our everyday living changes rapidly.

The changing demographics, the emergence of new technologies, shift the way in which we inhabit, use and share spaces. What is the role of design in the rapidly changing contemporary conditions? What is the office space of the future like? What is the library of the future? What is the shop of the future? Through our MA in Interior Design programme we address some of the above questions in a rigorous, experimental and creative manner. Through a fun and hands-on approach we will debate and challenge one another on some of the most current and ‘hot’ design related questions.

How you'll learn

You will learn through a series of design exercises. You will experiment through trial and error. You will develop rigorous design proposals for specific sites. You will redesign interventions for existing spaces, you will propose temporary structures, you will make models of different materials to test design concepts.

The programme will be taught in small groups, in a studio format. Exercises will include both individual and group work.

The modules will be taught in the cutting edge workshops of the School, around round-table vivid discussions in the vibrant studio environment, along visits to the Excel International Exhibition Centre (situated next to our campus), during walks through London’s most inspiring galleries and museums, and occasionally over a coffee at East London’s designer cafes.

MA Interior Design students may be asked to pay an additional one-off fee of £50 - £200 to the UEL to cover subject-specific expenses of the School.
