About Child And Adolescent Mental Health, Bsc (hons) in University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)

The BSc(Hons) degree in Child and Adolescent Mental Health is a post registration course for professionals who are either new to working with children, young people and families or who are seeking to build upon recent experience through the attainment of a recognised specialised qualification.

Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health is a new programme developed in response to local and national policy relating to the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practice. It aims to enable different professional groups working within the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to enhance their existing practice and develop specialist knowledge and skills.

This course was developed in close partnership with colleagues from clinical practice to ensure relevance for students. A range of subject material, innovative teaching, learning and assessment strategies and the personal development planning opportunities embodied within this programme will furnish the practitioner student with skills to react to these demands and also foster lifelong learning opportunities.

Developed in close partnership with colleagues from clinical practice, the course outcomes reflect the developmental needs of healthcare practitioners, the service needs of the organisations and most importantly the desire to improve the quality of care delivered to children, young people and families accessing [CAMHS] and healthcare in a variety of environments. It is imperative that healthcare professionals are able to respond to the variety of service demands placed upon them within all contexts where children, young people and families access mental health services and are able to react to policy drivers which change service provision.

There are a range of compulsory and optional modules. One compulsory module examines the key aspects of child and adolescent mental health with practitioners examining assessment, therapeutic approaches and services available. One of the optional modules develops specialist skills relating to cognitive behavioural interventions. The final compulsory module to complete the degree relates to the completion of a professional practice project focusing on changing practice guided by policy guidelines and evidence based practice.
