Overview
The MSc and PG Diploma in Psychology offer a fast-track route to eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society, provided a minimum standard of 50% is achieved.
This means that applicants will normally already have studied some psychology at undergraduate level in a previous degree programme and now wish to undertake further study in order to allow the opportunity for specialisation in psychology in the future.
This is therefore the first step towards further postgraduate training for those wanting to pursue a professional career in Psychology.
You will be given the opportunity to engage in practical work and will use the extensive psychological laboratory provision in the Division of Psychology. You will also be given the opportunity to engage in advanced theoretical debates relevant to the understanding of contemporary issues in society.
Learning and assessment
Teaching on the programme includes lectures, small group seminars, workshops and laboratory-based practicals.
You will explore theories in current debates, and develop experience and confidence to make a considered contribution to an argument. Throughout the programme you will acquire skills in knowledge acquisition, presentation, discussion and debate that will be useful in your future career progression.
Assessment will usually focus on written expression of your skills through essays, examinations or journal writing. You will also develop skills in presenting research findings and in the production of laboratory reports.
The Psychology Master Dissertation gives you the opportunity to carry out an empirical piece of research investigating one area in depth, using the skills developed during the programme. This study will help to further develop tyour ability to work independently and rigorously, whilst benefiting from the support of a member of staff with experience in a similar area.
