Aimed at those who have already completed a foundation degree or HND in marine engineering or foundation degree in marine electro technical engineering, this top-up honours degree is designed to provide the necessary knowledge to prepare graduates to respond to a number of career opportunities, both at sea and ashore.

While learning how to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of marine engineering-related problems, students are also encouraged to develop the qualities required for employment in an environment that may require the application of personal responsibility, technical leadership and commercial management in complex and sometimes unpredictable circumstances.

The course is delivered via blending learning - students begin with spending 15 weeks at Warsash before completing the course via distance learning over a period of up to 18 months. During this time, students are supported by nominated tutorial staff. This approach provides a flexible, supporting and structured programme of study that enables serving ships’ officer to achieve a relevant higher qualification alongside their professional certificate of competency.

Students who successfully complete this course may be eligible for partial exemption from the educational requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.
