In your first semester, you’ll take a compulsory module in Engineering Methods, which will teach you essential engineering techniques and philosophy. Depending on your background, you’ll then take a further three conversion modules from Vector Calculus, Energy Conversion Analysis, Computer Aided Engineering and Materials Selection. In your second semester, you’ll have the option to specialise in one of the main areas of Solid Mechanics, Robotics and Automation, and Thermofluids and Combustion.

Your research project will be a major component of your degree. You’ll join one of our research teams and complete your project using our state-of-the-art facilities.

Our well-equipped laboratories include a wide range of internal combustion engines, heat transfer facilities, wind tunnels, an anechoic chamber, a UK CueSim Flight Simulator and France-Price Induction Jet engine test bench, and materials synthesis and characterisation labs. Nanotechnology research is further supported by the facilities and expertise provided by Nanoforce, a company directly associated with the School.
