About Mechanical Engineering Beng in Queen's University Belfast
Mechanical engineers use their skills and knowledge in maths and science to design and manufacture new technology that functions efficiently and reliably at an optimised cost. Almost all products have a requirement of a mechanical engineer: from mobile phones, to medical devices to a formula 1 racing cars. Mechanical engineers are also developing the next generation of environmentally friendly materials and devices for renewable energy sources. The course develops core skills in maths, science and engineering design as well as providing education in the use of key engineering software essential for mechanical engineers in the 21st century.
Global Opportunities
- The School offers extensive opportunities to gain valuable overseas experience, either during the summer vacation or by taking a year out from the degree programme. We participate in the IAESTE and Erasmus student exchange programmes, which enable students to obtain work experience in companies and universities throughout the world. In recent years students have worked in countries such as Brazil, Finland, USA, France, Iceland, Argentina, Uruguay, Japan, South Africa and Portugal. The Study USA Initiative offers students after Stage 2 the possibility of studying for a year at a college in the USA, providing an excellent opportunity to gain familiarity with international business techniques. Our employability programme supports activities such as this, providing help and advice with preparation of CVs, interview skills and providing a point of contact for the duration of placements.
Academic qualification equivalents
- The Standard Indian XII (10+2) examinations from CBSE, CISCE or State Boards of Higher Secondary Education are acceptable for admission to our Bachelor degree programmes.
An average mark of 70 - 85% or higher (best of 5 academic subjects) in the Standard Indian XII Higher Secondary School certificates awarded by the central boards (CBSE, CISCE) or a state board, or equivalent, with 75% or higher where subject requirements are stipulated (comparable with Grade B at A Level).
English language requirements (one of the below):
- IELTS: 6.5 minimum of 5.5 in all four elements of the test
- TOEFL iBT : 90 with minimum marks as follows: Listening - 17,Reading - 18,Speaking - 20,Writing - 17
- PTE: 62 overall with minimum of 51 in each component
