What will you study on the MSc Mechatronic Systems Engineering degree?

This course will focus on both hardware and software issues, bringing these together using a systems approach within the context of mechatronics. You will focus on discrete technologies, integrating technologies into mechatronic systems, and carrying out system performance analysis and optimisation. In preparing the course, Festo, National Instruments and Siemens have all provided significant input to shape the content and make it directly relevant to industry using Industry 4.0 practices.

How is the MSc Mechatronic Systems Engineering taught?

The course is taught through a series of practical workshops as well as self-directed study in three phases lasting 12 weeks each.

Each three-month block covers one of the 60-credit modules, with each block broken into smaller chunks so that various subjects can be covered. You will also have a a choice of topics throughout the modules, leading to an individualised learning experience.

Specialist facilities have been developed on campus exclusively for this degree and you will be taught how to use them by a number of experienced staff as well as specialists seconded from the industry partners involved in creating the programme. In addition, there are technical tutors and Graduate Academic Assistants to support the individual student during and after formal class situations.

  • We normally require a second class honours degree 2:2 or above in computer science, science or engineering.
  • We also encourage applications from experienced engineers or graduates from wider engineering disciplines.
  • Candidates with other degrees are welcome to apply provided they can demonstrate appropriate levels of relevant experience.
  • Candidates without formal qualifications need to demonstrate relevant work experience and the ability to study at postgraduate level.

Visa Process for International Students

  • All international applicants need to have the Tier 4 visa clearance for six months.
  • Applicant must be at least 16 years old in order to apply for a Tier 4 visa.
  • Financial and documentation requirements need to be fulfilled by the applicant.
  • Passports, travel documentation and a tuberculosis test result are required when applying for Tier 4 visa.
  • A minimum of 40 points are required for Tier 4.
  • Out of these 40 points, 30 points are for a valid CAS from a Tier 4 sponsor, which will be Middlesex University.
  • 10 points are for financial means for college tuition, living costs and application fee.
  • A CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is sent to the applicant when he/she is admitted at the university.
  • This CAS contains a reference number that must be stated on the visa application form.
  • The validity of the visa depends upon the duration of the course taken by the applicant.
