We are one of the only courses where you will take part in the Degree Show, showcasing your work and increasing your professional network. You’ll get the opportunity to work with a wide range of media and visual communication methods that are central to the fashion industry. Understand practical fashion communication and develop your styling skills

We strongly believe the best way to prepare you for a career in this exciting field is with hands-on experience throughout the course. That’s why you’ll get the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge, like responding to live briefs set by industry experts, not just your lecturers.

During your fashion communication degree you'll take part in a work placement in the run-up to London Fashion Week, allowing you to spend time in a live work environment in your chosen area of the fashion industry. Past students have worked with Hero magazine, Man About Town, Law and Wonderland, and they have also worked closely with editor Alex James Taylor.

You’ll learn through extensive workshops, including state-of-the-art photography and reprographics facilities where you can explore and realise your ideas. Additionally, you’ll be able to access photographic, printmaking, and film studios alongside the Materials Room in the Library, which includes extensive archives of magazines, catalogues, and an amazing dress collection.

You'll also be involved in the Graduate Fashion Show working across PR, styling, front of house, and much more.

Get the support you need

We'll make sure you get the support you need to succeed. From your Personal Tutor to your Graduate Academic Assistant, each one has studied your subject and will provide the support you need based on their own experience. If you need a little help with writing, numeracy or library skills, we can help with that too. Students are also supported by specialised technicians, people who are experienced professionals in their fields. These support you while you work on projects and workshops in the studio.

You'll make the most of our strong industry links and contacts, collaborating with some of the most exciting brands in the fashion industry, and later enjoy diverse employment opportunities in fashion media and related fields.

What will you study on the BA Fashion Communication and Styling?

You will gain an insight into both contemporary fashion and the wider field of visual communication. You will engage with a broad range of professional skills and acquire first-hand experience of current industry practice, through work experience and collaboration:

In Year 1, you will focus on skills. You will learn a broad range of skills and get the opportunity to apply these skills through live and collaborative projects. You will cover topics such as styling, photography, graphic design and art direction, film, illustration and magazine production.

Year 2 is career-focused and you will undertake a six-week work placement and follow a specialist pathway. You can choose from:

• Styling
• Photography and Film
• Art Direction

Minimum 55% or above from a Local Board Examination or its equivalent.

Students must also satisfy our standard English language requirements. 

Required IELTS scores

• Undergraduate (bachelor) programmes - 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in all components)

Middlesex University International Student Admissions

Middlesex University accepts students from all around the world and currently has over 160 international partnerships.

Application fee: 40 GBP

Academic Documents:

• Transcripts and certificates of all the educational institutions previously attended by the applicant.
• References
• CV or Resume
• Personal statement
• Language proficiency test scores
• Interviews, portfolio and auditions might also be required for some courses.

The transcripts must be either copy of the original documents on letter headed paper or with a stamp from the academic institution. Applicants must provide their permanent details like post address or email address. If applicants are looking for a research degree, they must also include a research proposal along with their application. This must outline their research plans and highlight which is of research interests them.

English Proficiency Test Score Required for International Students

The applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit one of the following test scores to Middlesex University. The minimum test scores required for both UG and PF courses are as follows:

Visa Process for International Students

• All international applicants need to have the Tier 4 visa clearance for six months.
• Applicant must be at least 16 years old in order to apply for a Tier 4 visa.
• Financial and documentation requirements need to be fulfilled by the applicant.
• Passports, travel documentation and a tuberculosis test result are required when applying for Tier 4 visa.
• A minimum of 40 points are required for Tier 4.
• Out of these 40 points, 30 points are for a valid CAS from a Tier 4 sponsor, which will be Middlesex University.
• 10 points are for financial means for college tuition, living costs and application fee.
• A CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is sent to the applicant when he/she is admitted at the university.
• This CAS contains a reference number that must be stated on the visa application form.
• The validity of the visa depends upon the duration of the course taken by the applicant.
