This course is attractive to students who want to understand how both Chemistry and Biology can improve the health and wellbeing of people, animals and plants on a worldwide scale. Pharmaceutical or Medicinal Chemistry is the understanding of the molecular cause and treatment of diseases. The pharmaceutical industry is a major component of the chemical industry. Graduates will be Chemists who have specialised in Medicinal Pharmaceutical Chemistry and are familiar with Fundamental Biochemistry. Transfer to Chemistry with Biochemistry is available up to the beginning of Year 3.
The MChem degree involves an extensive 24-week Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry research project, in addition to specialist courses in Chemistry.
