About Children's Nursing Bsc (hons) in City University London
Our Children's Nursing degree is designed for students who are looking for a rewarding and lifelong career. You will develop your skills and interests in both general medicine and specialist areas to be a confident and compassionate child nurse. Teaching is through a range of methods including academic study, simulated learning and clinical placements.
Objectives
Children's nurses need to be versatile and resilient as they care for neonates and babies, children with acute or long-term health problems, children with mental health issues or special needs and children with life-limiting illnesses. Children’s nursing is a fulfilling and challenging profession where you will care for children up to the age of 16 (or in some circumstances, even up to 19*) alongside their families and carers. It is essential that as a Children's nurse you can empower children of all ages and also provide support to their families.
Teaching is a combination of classroom theory, simulated practice and practice placements. Simulated practice takes place within the specialist Clinical Skills Centre at our Northampton Square campus, a facility designed especially for you to practice your skills in a safe environment. Through simulated practice you will not only learn the necessary practical skills to enable you to go into your placements with confidence, but develop your communication and interpersonal skills, an essential part of a child nurses role.
As a City student you will benefit from clinical placements at London’s leading hospitals and trusts. Your placements will be in a range of settings, allowing you to experience the many different environments and specialisms’ children’s nurses’ work in. Specialist placements include the internationally recognised acute children’s emergency department service at the Royal London and specialist Paediatric gastroenterology unit, the only unit of its kind in the UK
