The BA (Hons) Management and Leadership is an exciting, innovative programme that will provide a strong foundation in leadership and management with an emphasis on personal and interpersonal competencies, self-motivation and intellectual skills development in relation to management and leadership to enable students to be able to respond to challenges quickly and decisively, adopt a growth mind-set and build resilience.
This degree programme is a designed to build and enhance students' skills and capabilities to become effective leaders. The aim is to provide a leadership development programme that is academically challenging, practically inspiring, developing personal growth. The ethos of the course is that rigorous, cutting-edge, theoretical knowledge will combined with a special focus on developing the practical and development skills required to become effective managers and leaders in a global world. The programme enriches students' knowledge in a range of leadership, management and business areas, including strategy, marketing, finance, human resource management, entrepreneurship and personal development.
This degree course contributes to career development through combining teaching, real life business and leadership with the development of key skills that employers are looking for. This programme will enable students to learn about the challenges of leadership in the 21st century. This degree is about the leaders and managers of tomorrow the programme will enable students to specialise in leadership and develop the skills to motivate and inspire people towards a common goal. Students will have access to inspirational speakers and a diverse network of successful business leaders, practitioners and entrepreneurs who will deliver workshops and lectures throughout their degree. This degree will combine contemporary academic theory with real-world application learning from a diverse team of academic, business leaders, professional accredited professionals who collectively offer cutting edge expertise and decades of management and leadership experience – bringing theory to life.
Employability & Careers
From the start of the degree students are encouraged to think about career, work and skills. The second year offers further opportunities to gain a compulsory work experience. The work experience module in year 2 (level 5) seeks to offer you real world experience. The work placement officers can assist in finding a suitable placement.
Alongside the degree and the practical skills students will obtain, the Cardiff Met EDGE also supports students to thrive in the modern world. Throughout the degree students will experience a range of opportunities to develop your ethical, digital, global and entrepreneurial competencies through problem-based learning, real-world industry case studies, and opportunities for work-based learning placements off campus. The Cardiff Met EDGE will ensure that students get a range of opportunities to develop transferable skills such as communication, team work and leadership.
It is expected that many graduates from this course will go on to obtain management positions across the public, private and third/voluntary sectors. The course also enables students to apply for leadership development programmes with companies such as Network Rail, Deloitte and Dunelm etc.
There are opportunities for students to continue their study at postgraduate level at courses with Cardiff School of Management, such as the MSc Human Resource Management, MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, MSc International Supply Chain and Logistics Management and the MBA.
