Course Overview
The BA (Hons) Advertising and Marketing Management at Cardiff Met is a marketing specialist degree which has been developed in conjunction with the Institute of Practitioners of Advertising (IPA) syllabus ensuring that teaching content is well aligned to industry expectations. The course has a great reputation for its vocational orientation - becoming a 'Met Marketer' will enable you to gain both the academic knowledge and practical skills needed to gain employment in the advertising and marketing industry.
The new degree will seek accreditation from the IPA and will enable students to develop the skills and ability to think creatively and adopt the latest tools in modern integrated advertising campaigns. Advertising continues to enjoy a high profile within the marketing communications sector especially with regard to brand building activities.
This course offers students the chance to develop their knowledge and skills to become highly informed in all aspects of advertising. Enabling students to develop and plan advertising campaigns in conjunction with other marketing activities, promotion, direct and digital media. This degree also incorporates important elements of the wider marketing area in order to ensure that students can enter the graduate market able to contribute effectively to all elements of marketing. You will be well equipped with a range of practical skills as you will be taught to use industry standard software equipping you with visual skills, alongside developing verbal and written communication skills.

Advertising continues to enjoy a high profile within the marketing communications sector. This course will prepare students for a range of jobs including agency roles such as account executive, conceptual creative, digital and press planner and buyer, or in-house positions such as press assistant, social media analyst and digital display executive.
During this course you will develop the key skills and understanding required for business with specialism in marketing management central to all business functions. On successful completion of the course you will have the skills to gain a position in marketing management, putting your skills to use in positions in advertising, marketing research, sales management, product management, customer service, public relations, and business management.
This course has been designed in conjunction with the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), in order to provide you with an opportunity to gain exemptions from their professional qualifications. You will also be able to join the our CIM student chapter which encourages all students to engage in our marketing learning community through organising organise key speakers and managing marketing-focused events. Incorporate dynamic speakers and helpful networking events will enhance your learning experience. Finally, you will be able to engage in entrepreneurial activities such as entering the CIM Pitch.
The option of including a year of experience in industry in year three has been included to allow you to complete the degree with a level of practical experience. This option of practical experience can be incorporated in the three-year degree course undertaking practical work in industry during term time or in holiday breaks during the course.
The aim of the course is that study and practical experience give the best prospect of employability at the end of the degree course. As such, you have the opportunity to graduate with a wide base of marketing knowledge and the potential to be a specialist in strategic use of PR, marketing, digital marketing, integrated marketing communications, branding and global marketing. Furthermore, you will have had ‘real-world’ experience, the chance to engage in our CIM learning community. Cardiff Met Marketing students should stand out for their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical environment.
