User experience fundamentals for the web

Drawing on the technical skills of the Certificate in Information Technology Technical Support, learn to analyse and test websites and web systems, and use internet design principles to design effective and engaging website interfaces.

What will I learn?

In the first six months of this programme you will complete the four courses in the Certificate in Information Technology Technical Support to gain a good grounding in Information Technology. 

You will then complete these four courses, specific to the NZ Diploma in Web Development and Design

Application Testing

  • Determine client acceptance requirements and data input and exports from existing system(s). 
  • Create, use and document a test plan for a solution to meet client requirements. 
  • Plan and implement a testing environment. 
  • Produce technical documentation for users and technical staff.

Introduction to Systems analysis and Design

  • Identify and discuss the principles of the systems development life cycle (SDLC). 
  • Explain the need for systems analysis and design within the systems development process. 
  • Explain the principles of effective IT systems analysis and design and the appropriate application of these in the systems development process. 
  • Create and interpret systems design and analysis documentation. 
  • Understand the need for and apply software development standards in analysis and design documentation.

Internet Design Principles

  • Describe and discuss the operation of Internet components and the interrelationships between these components. 
  • Explain the design principles required for successful Internet web page development for static and dynamic Internet web pages and apply these principles to the design and evaluation of a range of different web pages. 
  • Explain the design principles required for successful Internet website development and apply these principles to the design and evaluation of websites. 
  • Apply the principles of multi-media development for web.

Framework Customisation

  • Select an appropriate framework set for a given brief. 
  • Design a website for a particular Framework. 
  • Separate content from presentation in the development of a website. 
  • Work with groups, roles and permissions. 
  • Select and manage a host and domain names. 
  • Content types, entities and entity-relationships.
