About Bachelor Of Applied Management (accounting - Aca Pathway) in Ara Institute of Canterbury

Move up from accounting technician level and prepare for chartered accountant status.

With our practical, experience-based approach you'll be prepared to move into the professional accounting environment.

You'll gain advanced knowledge in computing, commercial law, economics, marketing and management within a business context, as well as communication, business, heritage, culture and sustainability.

To obtain Chartered Accountant status you must also complete three years of approved employment. Approved employment is recognised when you are:

  • working in a relevant accounting role with an approved or recognised training employer
  • working for at least 17.5 hours per week for a period of three months or longer
  • under the guidance of a recognised mentor

Career opportunities

Associated chartered accountants are well placed within the profession to work for chartered accountants in public practice, as financial and business analysts or advisors, and in management roles.

Go on to complete the professional requirements for full NZICA ACA membership or undertake further study towards one of our graduate diplomas.

Academic requirements

  • University Entrance: NCEA Level 3 (60 credits at Level 3 and 20 credits at Level 2 or higher) which must include 14 credits at Level 3 in each of three approved* subjects and

    • Literacy* - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of 5 credits in reading, 5 credits in writing and
    • Numeracy* - 10 credits at Level 1 or above (specified achievement standards, or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627)

    OR 
    New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) Ara Business and ICT Pathway or equivalent

    Note: If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency.

    • If you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, book an IELTS, Pearson or other test through the Ara Examination Centre or in your home country.

    IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS test report form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
