Why Study Electronic and Computer Engineering at UL?

This new Electronic and Computer Engineering degree has been developed in conjunction with employers, to meet the demand for male and female graduates with strong skills in software and hardware engineering, along with mathematical analysis ability.

This course will give you the skills to employ and develop technologies to tackle many of the challenges of the coming decades including energy, climate change, health and well-being as well as other innovative areas such as entertainment and self-driving vehicles.

Graduates of this degree programme will play key roles in the research, design, development, test and installation of future systems. They will frequently work in teams to tackle challenging problems. Many of the men and women who graduate from this degree also pursue higher degrees by research (MEng, PhD, etc), or through taught postgraduate programmes (MSc, MEng, MBA, etc).

This new Electronic and Computer Engineering degree has been developed in conjunction with industrial employers, to meet the demand for engineering graduates with strong skills in software and hardware engineering, along with mathematical analysis ability.

At the end of the second year, this new programme in Electronic and Computer Engineering will allow you to select a major option from five major options – Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotic Engineering, Electrical Energy Engineering, anda General option.

Graduates of this degree programme will play key roles in the research, design, development, test and installation of future systems. They will frequently work in teams to tackle complex and challenging problems. Graduates may also pursue higher degrees by research (MEng, PhD, etc), or through taught postgraduate programmes (MSc, MEng, MBA, etc).

The Bachelor of Engineering (BE) programmes in UL are accredited by Engineers Ireland (EI). This is an internationally recognised professional engineering accreditation. The new BE in Electronic and Computer engineering will be accredited once students have graduated from the programme, in accordance with Engineers Ireland rules.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Standard XII examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Metro State Boards or Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), with first-division/class standing and a minimum average grade of 70%. 

English language requirements (one of the below):

  • IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5* with no less than 6.0 in any component.

    *Please note some programmes have a higher IELTS requirement.

    **Please note, we can only accept Academic IELTS. General IELTS will not be accepted. 

  • TOEFL : 580 (paper based) or 90 (internet based)
  • PTE: a minimum score of 61 (with no section score below 59)
