This programme is for people who intend to become part-time farmers, fulltime commercial farmers or for those who wish to use the specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills and competencies to initiate and develop rural enterprises, be employed as community rural development officers, as agricultural officers with the department of agriculture, as field technicians or as sales representatives with agri-service companies.

Year one of the programme is common with the Bachelor of Business in Rural Enterprise and Agri-business course (GA 172) and is based at Mountbellew on four days per week and one day per week at GMIT in Galway.
Year two of the programme is based at Mountbellew on three days per week and at GMIT in Galway two day per week.
Students reside at Mountbellew for the first two years.
Year three is spent at the GMIT Galway campus.
There is a three-month work placement period in year two on a farm, environmental project or an agri-business.
Graduates satisfy the training requirements for farming and farm grants as follows:
- Students who do not wish to progress to year three may graduate with a Higher Certificate in Science on successful completion of year two. Higher Certificate graduates are entitled to get a ‘Letter of Equivalence’ to the FETAC/CAS Advanced Certificate in Agriculture (Level 6) award
- Similarly, graduates of the Level 7 Ordinary degree programme are entitled to get a ‘Letter of Equivalence’ to the FETAC/CAS Advanced Certificate in Agriculture (Level 6) award.
