About Certificate In International Business in Dublin Business School

The Certificate in International Business programme has been designed to provide the international student with a range of practical skills that complement theoretical knowledge studied. The curriculum also aims to provide students with the knowledge and communication skills necessary to operate effectively and gain future employment within a variety of enterprises and industries. Strong emphasis is placed on the acquisition of interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with customers and colleagues.

Structure

The Certificate in International Business is a Level 6 Special Purpose Award in one stage, accumulating 30 ECTS. The programme is a mix of theory and practice, conducted in the classroom.   There are five mandatory modules and students then choose one elective.

Skills gained

Marketing Communications will provide participants with an intensive study and application of, integrated marketing communications strategy in the context of sales management and the international business environment. Management will introduce the student to a range of studies (traditional and modern) which are useful in understanding people in the workplace. 

The International Economy will provide participants with an understanding of the evolution of International Trade within a “globalised” economy with a particular focus on the economic and political contexts within which it is evolving. It will also provide an understanding of the various theories underpinning International Trade. Enterprise and Communication focuses on the issues involved in International Enterprise Development while guiding participants in the development of a business plan which also encourages innovation and entrepreneurship/Business Accounting gives a broad overview of the underlying components of financial accounting that pertain to a modern business. It will focus on the accounting system and the preparation and interpretation of financial accounting statements.

Leaving Certificate

Under the new Common Points Scale for Leaving Certificate 2019 applicants must obtain a minimum of 5O6/H7, including a language. Some degree programmes will also require a minimum of O6/H7 in Maths. Please see individual course entry requirements for further details.

Using the old pre 2017 grading scheme, applicants must have obtained a minimum of Grade D3 in five ordinary level subjects, including a language. The Maths requirement for some degree programmes is a minimum of a D3 grade.  Individual course details will outline specific entry requirements. Please ensure to check the exact details for the course of your choice.

A-Levels

Applicants must obtain four GCSE passes at grade C to include Maths and English plus one pass at A –level. 

FETAC Applicants

Minimum entry requirements for graduates of FETAC Level 5 awards is a full FETAC award. A full FETAC award normally contains 8 modules. A record of achievement does not meet these minimum entry standards. Further details can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
 

Mature Applicants

If you are over 23 years of age on the 1st of January on the year of admission and do not meet the minimum entry requirements, you may apply as a Mature Student. Mature students should apply directly to the Admissions Office at Dublin Business School. Mature students are assessed on the basis of age, work experience, general education standard, motivation and commitment to the programme for which they are applying. Please forward documentation such as any relevant transcripts, a CV or any other related documentation to the Admissions Office. Proof of age such as a copy of driver’s licence or passport must also be submitted.

English Language Requirement

For EU or Non EU applicants whose first language is not English an additional requirement is to have achieved a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent to qualify for admission to Higher Certificates (Level 6 programmes).

Points Calculation

Selection of CAO applicants will be made on the basis of points. Your points will be calculated by adding together the points scored in the best of six subjects in a single sitting of the Leaving Certificate. The results of two sittings at Leaving Certificate (or equivalent examination) can be combined for the purposes of meeting the subject requirements for minimum entry.

Deferrals

If an applicant is offered a place on a course through the CAO, it is possible to defer entry for one year but only in accordance with the procedure outlined in the CAO Handbook.
