The MEng in Structural Engineering covers both the theoretical background and the practical design considerations of Structural Engineering. The content seeks to reflect current and future practice in structural analysis, design, appraisal, experimental techniques, and information technology. The programme of study is designed to progress your qualifications in the following ways:

  • Prepare you to undertake the Institution of Structural Engineers Professional Practice Examination by developing your structural analysis and design skills to an appropriate level;
  • Develop your ability to carry out in depth research in a chosen field of Engineering, to draw conclusions from the research and present research findings;
  • Broaden your knowledge in other areas such as Sustainability and Project Management;
  • You will have achieved the new educational standard required for the title Chartered Engineer.

Graduates have found are employed with private sector firms such as consulting engineers RPS Group, Arup, MottMacDonald, Cronin & Sutton, Roughan & O’Donovan, Jacon Engineering, ACOM (New Zealand), Hurst & Malcolm (London). A limited number have chosen employment with contracting companies or are operating as sole traders.
