About Community Development (ba) in Cork Institute of Technology
Course summary
Community Development is a process that seeks to build strong, sustainable communities by bringing people and groups together for the good of the wider community and society. Based on principles of equality, fairness and respect it sets out to influence power structures and remove barriers that prevent people from taking part in decisions that affect their lives.
Career
Graduates of the Degree programmes can expect to take supervisory/management/leadership roles in community projects and within statutory agencies.
It is envisaged that Higher Certificate holders will be qualified to seek employment in any of the following areas
- Development worker within a Community Education Project
- Development worker within a Community Resource Centre
- Worker within a Community Development Project (CDP)
- Resource worker in Community based health programmes
Academic qualification equivalents
- Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
- All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
English language requirements (one of the below):
- IELTS 6.5 overall (6.0 for Business programmes)
- IELTS 5.5 in all four components (listening, reading, speaking and writing)
- PTE 60 (63 for integrated programmes)
- PTE 55 in all four components (listening, reading, speaking and writing)
