Program description

The BAPT program is designed for students who have completed technical degrees or diplomas and wish to receive training for a career in the petroleum industry. There are many optional courses providing detailed training in specialized fields such as oil and gas exploration, drilling, reservoir and production engineering, oil and gas facilities design and operation, upgrading and refining operations, and economic analysis. This allows students to personalize their training to better suit their interests and career needs.

This program prepares graduates for career opportunities in the petroleum industry in such areas as oil and gas exploration, drilling, reservoir and production engineering, gas process engineering, oil and gas facilities design and operation, upgrading and refining operations and economic analysis.

Student success

Students with higher secondary or post-secondary marks usually experience greater success in SAIT programs.

Credentials and accreditation

After successfully completing this program, graduates will receive a SAIT Bachelor of Applied Technology Petroleum Engineering degree.

Accreditation

It should be noted that this degree does not currently provide the requirements leading to registration as a professional engineer. The degree is designed to provide the graduate with in-depth applicable training that will allow the graduate to function as a highly skilled member of an engineering team working in one of the areas outlined above.

Academic qualification equivalents

• University graduates holding relevant science (mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, or geophysics) or engineering degrees are accepted.

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS   :    6.0 in each skill
• TOEFL :    Overall 80, (A minimum score of 20 in each category)
• PTE      :    A score of 53 in each section

All the programs at the university are taught in English medium and hence proving English language proficiency is mandatory.

SAIT Admission requirements and process

Admission at SAIT Polytechnic requires additional documents from international applicants. Application requirements for various programs are given below.

Selection CriteriaSAIT Polytechnic opens the admissions in the Fall Start and continues until the Spring start. Different programs have different time periods for their admission process.

• The application fee charged is 75.00 CAD once for each program enrolment.
• Percentage required in schools and the other major requirements are different for all courses:
  • A 65% record or a cumulative GPA of minimum 2.3 is required for the Bachelor’s of business administration.
  • Other courses require a minimum of 50%.
  • A common requirement in all the courses is the English proficiency.
  • Admission into the Institute is determined on the academic records.
  • Graduate employment rate in the institute is 94%

Criteria of selection are not the same for different courses and to meet up to the suitability of the program the students may need to give supplementary documentation or additional information to be submitted. This includes:-
