The Institution of South Dakota (USD) is a public, coed research university in South Dakota. It was established in 1862 by the Dakota Territory government. It is known as South Dakota's Flagship University and is also the state's oldest public university. It is currently one of the six public universities overseen by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools has continually accredited the university since 1913. The University of South Dakota was named one of the greatest "National Universities." in America by U.S. News & World Report in 2018. University climbed ten places to #239, securing the #118 slot in Top Public Schools and, of course, remaining the most affordable Flagship University in the United States.
The University of South Dakota is located on a beautiful 274-acre campus near the Missouri River. The main academic structure on the university's campus is Old Main, which is one of the schools' icons. The institution's site also features an Oscar Howe Museum and the University Honors Program, in addition to various classrooms. A wellness centre at the institution features workout equipment, basketball, racquetball, and volleyball courts, as well as a three-lane walking track. The Dakota Dome serves as a student recreational centre as well as a venue for the university's football, swimming, softball, and basketball teams.
The institution houses the state's sole medical and law schools. It comprises 7 schools and colleges, which offer 202 undergraduate and 78 graduate programmes as of 2019. School of Law, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts, School of Education, Beacom School of Business, School of Health Sciences, and School of Medicine are among the programmes offered. The institution had a total of 9,920 students registered for the 2019 Fall semester, with 7,475 in undergraduate programmes and 2,445 in graduate programmes. There are over 120 groups and clubs on campus that provide students with an enriched academic experience.
