Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, is a well-established private institution of higher education. It was founded in 1935 and is Long Island's largest private university. It was founded as an extension of New York University, but in 1939 it became independent. In 1963, it began to be recognised as a university. It is the institution with over ten schools, including the Deane School of Law and the Northwell School of Medicine, that is renowned for a series of well-known Presidential conferences and numerous presidential debates of the United States. The library on the tenth floor of the campus's tenth-floor building provides a view of the entire city of New York.
