About Dallas Baptist University

In 1898, Dallas Baptist University (DBU) was founded as Decatur Baptist College in the town of Decatur. It was the state's first two-year junior college. In 1965, the college moved to Dallas and became Dallas Baptist College. It became a senior college in 1968 and began awarding four-year degrees in 1970. In 1985, it was officially given its current name. Currently, the university holds accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC). There are seven colleges and two schools present. It is affiliated with the Texas Baptist General Convention. Additionally, a number of the university's programmes are accredited by relevant professional organisations.

The main DBU campus consists of 384 acres and is located in the southwest of Dallas, Texas. It is conveniently situated near both downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth. The world-class campus features outstanding residential, educational, and recreational facilities. There are dormitories, Colonial Village Apartments, Brownstones, and Williamsburg Village Townhomes available. There are fifty student organisations on campus. DBU's nine colleges and schools offer 85 undergraduate majors, seven associate degrees, 73 dual master's degree programmes, 69 accelerated master's and bachelor's degree programmes, and two doctoral degree programmes. It is home to 4,766 students, including more than 500 international students from 60 countries. Eighty-two percent of the university's 132 distinguished full-time faculty members hold doctorates in their respective fields. The faculty-to-student ratio is 13 to 1. The university offers exceptional career services to its students, including career counselling, resume writing, career fairs, and interviewing techniques. It offers excellent internship and employment opportunities.

Over the years, DBU has produced a large number of skilled, talented, and qualified graduates. Ben Zobrist, Jason LaRue, and Freddy Sanchez play baseball professionally. Gwyn Shea previously served as the Texas Secretary of State. Phil King is a distinguished American lawyer. John R. Rice was the founding editor of The Sword of the Lord, an influential fundamentalist newspaper. The Barna Group was conceived by George Barna. David Brown was the former chief of the Dallas Police Department. The occupations of Ron Simmons are Investment Advisor and Politician. Lauren Scruggs is a well-known author and fashion journalist. The owner and president of the Kansas City Mavericks hockey team is Lamar Hunt Jr. Numerous additional notable figures are affiliated with the university.
