About Brandeis University

1948 saw the founding of Brandeis University, a private research institution founded by the American Jewish community. Louis Dembitz Brandeis institute was founded as a non-denominational institution. The institution opened with thirteen faculty members and 107 students. Today, it is among the best research institutions. The institution holds accreditation from NAICU, AAU, UPNE, and AICUM. It has ties to the Boston Consortium and the Association of American Universities. Boston Consortium enables Brandeis University students to cross-register for courses at institutions such as Tufts University, Boston University, and Boston College.

The university's main campus is approximately 14 kilometres from Boston. On the 235-acre campus are the Heller School, the International Business School, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Rabb School of Continuing Studies, the Rose Art Museum, and the library. The library's collection of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, etc. provides resources for university research, instruction, and learning. It contains over 2 million books (both digital and physical), 45,000 journals (both digital and physical), and 4,000 films. Additionally, Brandeis University is a member of the Boston Library Consortium, which permits its students and faculty to borrow books from other institutions.

The Jewish community is the subject of research and evaluation at the Maurice and Marilyn Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies. It was founded in 1980 and was the first institution of its kind in the United States. In addition, Brandeis University is home to the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism, the Steinhardt Social Research Institute, and the Women's Studies Research Center. These institutes fund research projects concerning gender, justice, women, the Jewish community, and U.S. ethnicity.

Brandeis University offers a variety of degree programmes in the arts, sciences, management, social sciences, and journalism, among others. More than 3,600 students are enrolled in undergraduate programmes at the university, and more than 2,100 students are pursuing graduate degrees. The university has the eighth-largest international student population in the country, with 20% of its undergraduate students hailing from outside the United States. Professors on the faculty are intellectual pioneers, award winners, and experts in their respective fields. The university has approximately 366 full-time and 176 part-time faculty members. With nearly 5800 students and 542 faculty members, the university has a student-faculty ratio of 10:1.
