Nipissing University was established in 1967 as a Laurentian University associate. It is located in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, and is well-known for its small class sizes, creative and helpful staff, and extensive chances for student study. The college began operating independently in 1992 and began awarding baccalaureate degrees to its students. The Ontario government enacted a measure in 2001 to update the university's charter and allow it to award graduate degrees. The Faculty of Education at Nipissing College was created by incorporating the North Bay Teachers' College.

The Winter term comes before the Fall term, which marks the beginning of the academic year.

Students can obtain both a bachelor's degree and a college diploma from Canadore College in four years thanks to a few university cooperation programmes in environmental biology and technology, criminology and criminal justice (policing stream), and social welfare and social development.
