About Social Work Msw in Youngstown State University
The Master of Social Work program prepares you for advanced practice with clients through an approach that emphasizes helping individuals, families and communities recognize and reach their capacities, as well as understand the obstacles they face, to ultimately improve their quality of life.
Focusing on advanced direct practice, you'll develop your core knowledge, skills and values within the field into more effective tools for you to use a professional. Learning largely centers on promoting social justice in the delivery of social services within a diverse society.
Along with academic coursework, your curriculum will include two major field placement experiences. We offer a traditional MSW program for non-BSW students and the Advanced Standing Program for individuals who meet the admissions requirements. The foundational field practicum directs your experience in areas concerning populations at risk, human behavior in the social environment, social welfare policy and services, research and more. An advanced-level placement gives you an additional 30 weeks of practical application.
Student-centered program options provide an opportunity to complete your master’s degree in one (advanced standing only), two, three or four years.
