About Psychology - Master's (ms) in University of Texas At Arlington
The industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology MS program is dedicated to promoting the connection between science and practice; thus, our curriculum is purposefully structured to balance between research and application. In that way, the program encompasses a holistic view of I/O. The program was designed in accordance with the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Guidelines for Education and Training at the Master's Level in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The students in our program have the opportunity to be involved with a student-staffed consulting organization, the Industrial and Organizational Psychology Center. The center was established in 2012 as an alternative mode with which to increase the knowledge base of the I/O students. By providing students the opportunity to acquire relevant field experience and to network with local organizations, the center serves as an excellent teaching tool in the development of I/O-related competencies, as well as a mechanism to develop sustainable working relationships with organizations.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Our master's degree trains students to become polished I/O psychology professionals. I/O professionals work in a number of areas that are crucial to the success of modern businesses and industries (leadership development, employee selection, performance management, organizational development). Additionally, our program is strategically located within the DFW Metroplex, which is home to thousands of corporate headquarters. Organizations from a variety of industries have partnered with us and have provided students with internships and field experience, such as AT&T, Lockheed Martin, PepsiCo, 7-Eleven, JC Penney, Brinks, Bell Helicopter, BNSF Railway, GM Financial, and Texas Instruments. Our program prepares students for working with industry by providing course work in experimental design, quantitative methods, applied psychological topics, and management theory. This training enables our graduates to be strong competitors for employment and perform effectively in the workplace. The program provides a non-thesis degree option as well as the option of completing a master's thesis. Either option awards students a Master of Science.
