Earth science, an evolution of the field known as geology, studies our planet from its origin to today. Earth scientists study fossils, volcanoes, tectonics, water flows, lakes, minerals, and rocks.
Typically, earth scientists will use tools from physics, chemistry, biology, chronology, and mathematics to build a quantitative understanding of how the Earth system works, how it evolved to its current state, and what changes are constantly taking place.
