About Computer Engineering in University of Central Oklahoma
The computer engineering program at the University of Central Oklahoma is a new program that was introduced in fall 2021. It is jointly managed by the Department of Engineering and Physics and the Department of Computer Science.
Computer engineering combines elements of electrical engineering and computer engineering. Computer engineers focus on the design and development of computer hardware and software. Their work extends from working with small microprocessors to large supercomputers. Computer engineers are employed in nearly all of today’s industries, but particularly in high-tech firms that rely on microprocessor controllers. Students majoring in computer engineering at UCO can focus on one of three areas of concentration: cybersecurity engineering, the internet of things and control systems.
Following the accreditation guidelines of the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the computer engineering program will be submitted for its initial accreditation one year after it produces its first graduate. The program, courses and students are currently being monitored and assessed using the same procedures that are currently in place for UCO’s six other ABET-accredited engineering and computer science programs.
