The materials science and engineering degree program immerses you in hands-on study geared to discovering materials for products and technology, and finding new ways to use and improve existing ones. Materials science engineers research, design and develop polymers, metals, ceramics, composites, and other natural and synthetic materials to advance fields such as energy, health care, aerospace and defense. Students earning a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering work directly with the materials they study through smelting, composite manufacturing and glassblowing labs. Undergraduates gain research experience in the University of Arizona's world-renowned centers such as the Arizona Materials Lab and the Arizona Research Institute for Solar Energy and through interdisciplinary design projects.
