About Physical Therapy, Dpt in University of Alabama At Birmingham
When a patient is ill or injured, a physical therapist can play a huge role in their recovery—whether it's by helping them move normally, relieving pain, or preventing further injury or disability. At UAB, you'll conduct research and gain experience that will prepare you for a career as a physical therapist, consultant, educator, or other position.
We specifically designed our program so you can give your patients the best outcomes possible. Your classes will cover such topics as neuroscience, gross anatomy, human performance physiology, and physical therapy intervention. In addition, we believe hands-on learning will be critical to your education. That's why we're going to offer you clinical education as well as professional-practice courses. Finally, we want you to take a series of doctoral-level, non-thesis research, and scientific-inquiry courses so you can learn about experimental design, statistical concepts, data collection, and more. That way, you'll have had the coursework, research, and experience to prepare you for practicing in the real world.
- UAB was the first university in the region to establish a Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
- Are you in high school and already know you want to be a physical therapist? If you qualify, you can gain early acceptance into our program through the Early Medical School Acceptance Program.
