About Health Informatics, Mshi in University of Alabama At Birmingham

In just two years time, you can learn the skills you need to pursue an informatics career at a healthcare facility, government, or elsewhere.
Not only can you learn these important skills, you can fit it within your already busy schedule. That's right. We specifically designed this curriculum with online classes and limited residential requirements to make it easier for you to keep up with your full-time job and other responsibilities. To get started, you'll take courses that cover topics such as clinical, administrative, and health information systems, security in health care, strategic planning, and leadership development. If you concentrate in data analytics, you'll take courses such as Advanced Database Design, Business Intelligence for Healthcare, and Quantitative Methods. With the user experience concentration, your coursework will include User-Based Design and User-Based Research, among other subjects. Both curriculum options include capstone projects. You’ll also complete a three-day residential visit each fall and spring semester.

English Language Requirements
TOEFL (UAB code: 1856):
- TOEFL (minimum composite score of 80 and a minimum score of 20 for each section) and TWE for international applicants whose native language is not English.
IELTS: 6.5 overall with at least a 6.0 on each section of the examination
