About Bachelor's Degree In Chemistry in Stevens Institute of Technology
Bridging the gap between the life sciences and physical sciences, we live among the discoveries and creations of chemists: from the synthetic fabrics we wear, to the detergents used to wash them, from pharmaceuticals to plastics, cleaner fuels to more abundant food.
In the chemistry bachelor’s program, you’ll learn the fundamentals of the five areas of chemistry (organic, inorganic, analytical, biochemistry and physical chemistry) to instill a foundational knowledge needed in the field. Students can then gain advanced knowledge in areas in which Stevens has unique strengths, including natural products, medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, polymer chemistry and instrumental analysis.
The chemistry bachelor’s program incorporates research as an essential preparation for a career in chemistry and to develop independence in solving open-ended problems. In this program, undergraduate students have the unique opportunity to participate in a year of research in various areas, for example drug discovery and medicinal chemistry with experts such as faculty in the Center for Healthcare.
Students in the chemistry bachelor’s program at Stevens learn from and research with some of the brightest minds in the field. Home to Dr. Irving Langmuir, a former Stevens faculty member and winner of the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1932 for his discoveries and investigations in surface chemistry, the chemistry program continues to be led by faculty who have valuable industry experience and play leading roles in many areas of chemistry and engineering including computational, analytical, and organic chemistry.
