About Bachelor's Degree In Chemical Biology in Stevens Institute of Technology
Chemical biology is an exciting field at the very core of biotechnology and the foundation of modern medicine. As the physicians, dentists, veterinarians, and researchers of tomorrow, chemical biologists study disease and develop drugs to help people live longer, healthier lives. By developing a chemical understanding of biological systems, chemical biologists can develop quantitative descriptions of complex biological phenomena, predict outcomes of biological systems, and contribute to the new field of synthetic biology.
Established in 1978, the chemical biology bachelor’s program was the first undergraduate program of its kind and Stevens remains one of the few universities in the country that offers this unique area of study.
By combining a complete education in chemistry with additional mathematics and physics training to ensure a solid foundation in quantitative physical sciences and a set of biology courses that introduce the key elements of cellular, molecular, and physiological biology, the chemical biology bachelor’s program is effective in launching students onto careers in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, forensic science or biology.
Stevens’ chemical biology laboratories are equipped with sophisticated instrumentation that allow students to study biological phenomena under controlled conditions and explore the mechanisms governing growth, differentiation, behavior, evolution and aging.
The chemical biology bachelor's degree can be certified in chemistry by the American Chemical Society (ACS) if CH 412 Inorganic Chemistry is taken as a general or technical elective during the program.
