About Neuroscience - Bachelor Of Science (b.s.) in Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis
The Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience is a Purdue University degree offered in the Neuroscience Program.
Neuroscience is a rapidly advancing field that addresses the structure and function of the nervous system, with particular focus on intersection between the brain and behavior. Our program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum grounded in biology, psychology, physics, chemistry, computer science, and mathematical sciences, with the nervous system as a common focus. You’ll have the option to study cellular/molecular, computational, or behavioral neuroscience. No other program provides the cross-disciplinary research and learning environment that IUPUI offers our students!
As early as their freshman year, our undergraduates are encouraged to participate in research with renowned faculty. Students are at a unique advantage to have an impact in this field because of our strong partnerships with the School of Medicine, as well with organizations in central Indiana that are aligned with the life and health sciences, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries.
All neuroscience students complete a senior capstone research project. The capstone is an independent, creative effort of the student that is integrative and builds on the student's previous work in the major. It could be research, an independent study project, a practicum, a seminar, or field experience.
You’ll graduate prepared to continue on in graduate/professional and study advanced study medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, law or public health.
If you’re looking to start your career after graduation, we’ll prepare you for that, too. The field of neuroscience has been described in Science Careers as an ‘explosive field’ that has emerged over the last three decades. There is a high demand for trained professionals with knowledge and skills related to neuroscience. You could find a job as a research technician at a university, hospital, biotechnology company, pharmaceutical company, medical center, or government agencies. Private research foundations, government laboratories, and regulatory agencies also hire our neuroscience graduates.
