Solving health care problems on a global scale

This program serves as a bridge between clinical, operational, and administrative functions and incorporates medicine, management, finance, information technology, and law into one curriculum.
This degree prepares graduates to:
Earning your degree through the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI connects you to a campus with a strong health care focus. Our students get experience in facilities like the IU School of Medicine, the IU School of Nursing, the Regenstrief Institute, and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center.
That real-world learning is not just a bonus—it’s a program requirement. As part of your degree you’ll complete a professional practicum in a health care setting under the supervision of a mentor.
The delivery of health care
Your courses will cover health care delivery systems, coding, information governance, and handling medical data. Students learn decision and patient data analysis, management skills, and health information standards. Because of the course work diversity, HIM graduates can choose from a variety of work settings across an array of health care environments including analyzing health information, managing electronic health records, and ensuring the privacy and security of patient data.
