About Cybercriminology And Security Studies (bs) in Indiana State University
The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in cybercriminology and security studies.
The Cybercriminology and Security Studies Program is designed to equip students with a strong baseline understanding of a growing category of 21st century crime. Graduates of the program possess a comprehensive understanding of national, corporate, and cyber security and the protection of physical facilities theories and practices, and are prepared for supervisory-level positions within security, law enforcement, and business environments.
Coursework includes a required core of criminology and criminal justices courses —plus a concentration in one of the following areas:
- Cybercrime: Under this concentration, students will develop the ability to analyze, investigate, and respond to digital threats (virtual crimes).
- Physical Security: Under this concentration, students will develop the ability to analyze the global complexities and implications of corporate security, travel security, retail security, loss prevention, overall procedures, and operations.
Students benefit from classes taught by award-winning faculty who hold doctorates in criminology, criminal justice, jurisprudence, sociology, public administration, and computer science. Many have experience in the field in policing, corrections, criminal investigators, security assessment, cyber security, and digital forensics.
Facilities include two well-equipped laboratories for hands-on experience: a forensic laboratory for forensic investigations, and a cyber-laboratory for cyber security and intelligence investigations.
The School of Criminology and Security Studies sponsors activities and conferences that enable students to interact with other students and professionals in the field—and also sponsors a chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, the national criminal justice professional fraternity. Additional opportunities are available through the School’s partnerships with agencies, universities, and organizations located in Indiana—and throughout the world.
