The computer science field is constantly advancing, requiring strong foundational knowledge with the flexibility to adapt. The College of Computing and Informatics has developed both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts program in computer science to offer extensive exposure and hands-on experience in core areas while allowing the pursuit of varied career paths through either humanities and social sciences or sciences and applied mathematics.
All students take classes in programming and data structures, software methodology and engineering, computer systems architecture and more. Students also choose from available concentrations to develop specialized skills. These concentrations include:
Computer Security – This concentration gives detailed knowledge of various systems that require protection, an understanding of the cyber-environment and physical environment in which they operate, and an understanding of the ethical expectations and legal surroundings of their field. Students will graduate with the ability to design and implement computing security and privacy processes, software, and systems.
Game Programming and Development – This concentration provides understanding of game design on a conceptual level as well as practical experience in the design and the development of games. Courses in this concentration include fundamentals of game design and development, large-scale game development, and special topics in educational and experimental game design.
